The Future of the Early Years Foundation Stage: Giving Every
Child the Best Start in Life
Tuesday 14th June 2011, 10.15am –
4:30pm (registration from 9.30am)
Central London
The EYFS has already made a positive impact,
improving outcomes for young children and receiving strong support
from practitioners and parents. However, with 44% of children still
not reaching a good level of development by the end of the year in
which they turn five years old, it is clear that there are
weaknesses in the EYFS which must be addressed.
As the Government considers the radical
recommendations of Dame Clare Tickell’s EYFS Review, this
symposium offers a timely opportunity for early years practitioners
and providers across the public, private and third sector to assess
the current EYFS, identify gaps in policy and practice and explore
how early years education can be improved to better meet the needs
of children in the future.
Key Speakers:
- Chris Barnham, Deputy
Director, Early Years Quality and Standards, Department for
Education
- Thom Crabbe, National
Manager, Early Years Children's Workforce Development
Council
The symposium will:
- Explore the Tickell Review’s
recommendations
- Consider how to better prepare children for
school, developing basic skills and identifying learning needs
early
- Examine how to develop a well-qualified,
supported and experienced workforce
- Discuss how to better engage parents in their
child’s learning and improve multi-agency working to ensure a
child’s needs are met
- Share best practice in learning and
development
